Can Nutella Cause Cancer?

What are life’s 3 golden rules for pleasure?

Eat Nutella, Eat Nutella and Eat Nutella!

People claim that wine is the closest you can get to Epiphany!

Well, Nutella takes you seven skies beyond Epiphany!

Made especially in the kitchen of Heaven from the delicate hands of angels, there is but little doubt that Nutella has descended from Eden’s garden!

Now imagine the chocolate, as it melts on your tongue, transcending in to the land of taste, and then it slowly penetrates through your delight, you start feeling ecstasy and cancer!

Wait! WHAT?

How could a thing like “Nutella” ruin your life’s purpose? Over the last few days, the news – Nutella may cause cancer – has been going viral but is there any truth to it? Or is it all corporate crap?

European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) claims that the main ingredient of Nutella is carcinogenic in nature.

Yes! It is the palm oil they are pointing at. Maybe the chef’s palms were sweaty, knees weak; arms were heavy.

Though, it is the main ingredient, but what terrors the EFSA are glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE), 3-monichloropropanediol (3-MCPD) and 2-monochloropropanediol (2-MCPD), derived from glycodil present in palm oil profoundly. They claim that these compounds pose harmful effects which later on may promote cancers in body.

But is processed palm oil the culprit behind cancer? After all, it is present in chocolate bars, ice-creams, baby milk formula, sandwich spreads and even vegetable oils. Then why Nutella? How can something more adorable than a baby panda eating marshmallows, be so harmful?

Ever since the news came out, many confectionary stores de-shelfed Nutella products and stopped their selling, but does this put Ferrero- a Nutella manufacturer reputation in shambles?

May be or may be not!

In counter argument, Nutella has hit back to this claim and clearly stated that their ingredients are picked and refined. The company claims that:

“The health and safety of consumers is an absolute and first priority for Ferrero and we confirm that Ferrero products are safe. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has analyzed the presence of contaminants in a large number of products and oils stating that the presence of contaminants depends on the oils and fats used as well as the processes they are subjected to.

“It is for this reason that Ferrero carefully selects quality raw materials and applies specific industrial processes that limit their presence to minimum levels, fully in line with the parameters defined by the EFSA. In addition, our Quality teams constantly monitor such factors and guarantee the food safety of our products to the consumer.”

At the moment, eat Nutella for what it is, a heaven on earth. Don’t worry about cancer because the news, as it has turned out, is most likely fake!
