Some brushes are too abrasive and can wear down teeth. A soft, rounded from the end, multi-tufted brush can clean your teeth effectively. For many, electric toothbrushes work well even. U just need to hold and guide it and it will clean your teeth properly but it is mostly recommended for handicapped, mentally-retarded and children.

In market twisted handle brushes are also available, they are meant to make your brush more flexible to clean the end teeth and also to control the force you are applying on your brush which ultimately shifts to your teeth. If you are using such a brush then you should take care of the brush cleanliness especially from the twisted part of the handle. Germs and grease may stick there.

Are You Brushing Enough

If you don’t know, here’s the answer. Brushing your teeth twice a day is recommended. Three times a day is best.
Don’t overdo it because brushing more than three times a day can wear down tooth enamel and can damage your gums too. Always brush your teeth after the breakfast and before going to the bed. Brush for almost 2-3 min but slowly and cautiously. This is to develop a right reflex of brushing. Heart patients are advised to brush their teeth for 3- 5 min twice a day daily.

If you can’t keep check on your brushing time because most of the people don’t go for brushing long enough to get their teeth properly cleaned, then you can try using a stop watch . However, it might be a good idea even to brush your teeth while watching TV to make the time go faster. But again, just don’t overdo or under do it!

How To Properly Brush Your Teeth

Use short, gentle strokes because it doesn’t take a lot of force to remove plaque. Pay extra attention to the gum-line, hard-to-reach back teeth and areas around fillings, crowns or other restorations. Hold the brush at a 45 degree angle against the gum-line and sweep the brush away from the gum-line and make an up and down motion.

Never give wide and side-to-side strokes because it can cause scrapes along your gum-line and cause the gum surface to recede, exposing the root surface or make the root surface tender. Try to concentrate on thoroughly cleaning each section. First, brush the outer surfaces of your upper and lower teeth, then their inner surfaces.

In the start of right brushing technique practice try counting the number of times you have swept your brush on the tooth surface. It has to be 8 times on every tooth surface. It may seem long but as it becomes your reflex you will not be requiring the sweeping count check. Clean the chewing surfaces and don’t forget to brush your tongue for fresher breath. It is also recommended to always begin brushing in the different place so you can make it to all surfaces of the teeth.

Rinse your brush every time you use it because germs from your mouth and teeth can stay on it.
Leftover toothpaste can harden bristles. Let your toothbrush dry because a moist toothbrush is most likely to grow bacteria. Try capping your brush while traveling and otherwise. Let your toothbrush go!

You should be well aware of the fact that getting a new brush every three to four months is must. You can access it by looking at the bristles. Once the bristles lose their normal flexibility and get frayed, they won’t clean your teeth properly.
