11 Commandments For Staying Young And Beautiful
Some of us take health for granted. I vividly remember the day when I underwent an appendectomy on account of agonizing abdominal pain. The pain was so harrowing, it left me whimpering like a helpless pup as I was rushed to the surgery.
The bed rest that followed made me cherish the days where I was able to walk and skip all through my day.
This is life. Take flu, for example. It blocks your nostrils – and your life. Even menial work such as simply getting out of bed or eating food becomes exhausting and painful if you’re under the weather. The power one tiny little bacteria or a virus can have over your body is scary and yet with today’s advancements in the field of health, we have found many ways to combat sickness.
However, you can tackle the measly old flu or recover from an even serious ailment, but what can you do about aging? I’m not talking about avoiding wrinkles or growing a white hair, I’m talking about all the added negatives that old age unfortunately offers.
Secrets To Staying Young
Everyone, particularly women, want the elixir of life, to stay perpetually young & beautiful. Yet, there isn’t a fountain of youth you can jump into or a miracle drug you can swallow. Nonetheless, there are a number of different ways to counteract the pesky problems age brings such as lower libido, age-related illness, and natural wear-and-tear of the body.
Ladies, here are 11 of those magical ways that will protect your days of youth.
Slather Your Skin With Age-Defying Minerals & Vitamins To Ward Off Wrinkles
A healthy, young face is devoid of wrinkles and fine lines. However, more than half of the women look older than they are because they neglect their skin.
Your skin needs a certain amount of oxygen, hydration, collagen and elastin to stay youthful and supple.
Women who smoke age prematurely. Fine lines begin to appear around mouth and forehead. Chronic drinking changes facial hue overtime and leads to capillary breakdown.
Sun exposure accelerates aging, wrinkles and spots.
Ladies, if you want to slash years off you, you need skin care. Your skin is the gateway to your health. If it is young, wrinkle-free and glowing, you will look young and fresh.
For younger looking skin, give up smoking and protect your skin from sun. Slather it with skin-friendly vitamins and supplements. Look for skin products containing:
- Retinol, a type of vitamin A. It smoothens skin and prevents wrinkles. It gently peels the skin, revealing silkier, fresher and rosier skin. (One thing women cannot resist!)
- Madecassol, an Asian plant extract. It gives you the youthful glow by hydrating skin and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.
It’s Official – A Positive Approach Adds Years To Life. Be Optimistic!
A study published by the American Psychological Association claims that our outlook over getting older is linked to the number of birthdays we get to celebrate. It seems that an optimistic attitude can lower one’s blood pressure or cholesterol, leading to an added 4 years in lifespan!
“Self-perceptions of aging had a greater impact on survival,” the researchers say, “than did gender, socioeconomic status, loneliness and functional health.”
Fish Is The Way To Go! It Takes Years Off Your Face & Is A Natural Anti Aging Solution
Harvard School of Public Health released a report praising the benefits of eating fish. Apparently, if you have an increased amount of Omega-3 fatty acids in your blood system, you can lower your risk of mortality by 27%.
Not just that, fish boosts brain, heart, and immunity. It also prevents eye problems, bone thinning and cancer.
It also gives the much coveted glow and younger looking skin.
Bring on the fish food!
A Man’s Best Friend Is His Dog. Woman’s? Her Bed & Pillow!
The number of hours you sleep can play a role in the number of years of your youth. In fact, women need more sleep than men. Dr. Jim Horne, Britain’s leading expert in sleep science, says, “on average women need twenty more minutes of sleep than men.”
This is because women are multitaskers and use more of their brain than men.
The rule is simple, the more you use your brain during the day, the more it needs to rest during sleeping.
Also, night-serums and anti aging creams work only when you get good sleep. Sleep your worries away, Princess Aurora!
Drink Green Tea – It Makes You Young & Beautiful!
It would not be wrong to call green tea the magic potion. It literally holds the key to youth.
Anti aging benefits of green tea are well established. It is an abundant source of catechins, the antioxidants that fight free radicals. Green tea also aids digestion and improves metabolism.
Antioxidants in green tea protect telomeres, the ending of chromosomes that wear and tear with age, from oxidative damage. Polyphenols also protect skin from environmental, chemical and toxic damage and prevent premature aging.
Get Regular Screenings Even If You Are Healthy
One of the best ways to ensure health, youth and long life is to get screenings as recommended. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists screening guidelines for women aged 18-39 include:
- Blood Pressure Screening – once every 3-5 years
- Cholesterol Screening – once every 5 years
- Diabetes Mellitus – If your BP is >135/80 mmHg or your BMI is >25, get screening for diabetes mellitus
- Dental Exam – once or twice a year
- Eye Exams – once in two years, if you have vision problems
- At age 19, get TdAP vaccine.
- If you were born after 1980, get two doses of varicella vaccine.
- At 18-26, get three shots of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine.
- Breast Exam – Do a monthly breast self-exam.
- Pap Test – Beginning at 21, you should have a pelvic exam and pap test once every three years
The Copenhagen City Heart Study, started in 1976 aimed at creating a population study of around 20,000 subjects from ages 20 to 93 to understand more about preventing cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This intensive study was also able to highlight one prevention technique that is able to add 6.2 years of life, which is called jogging. It not only improves oxygen uptake, lowers blood pressure but also improves cardiac function and lowers obesity.
These are just seven of the many different tricks and techniques one can adopt to make their daily lifestyle all the healthier. It’s the simple things like eating properly and waking up at normal hours, that we understand at the back of our minds, but never fully implement either due to laziness or something else. If such tiny changes within our daily routine can make us young & beautiful and increase our longevity by even a few years, why not try it?
Stress Is Bad For Sisters Before Misters
Women are twice as likely to be stressed and depressed as men. This is because women invest more in relationships and end up suffering more. Career-oriented women juggle between job and family responsibilities.
All of this translates into stress and anxiety. Stress causes a number of changes in the body that can accelerate aging. Surges in adrenaline and cortisol can cause a spike in blood pressure, weight gain, insomnia and premature aging.
Stop aging by letting go of stress. Give yourself a break.
Keep An Eye On Hormones If You Want To Continue Looking Younger & Beautiful In 40s & 50s.
As a woman, you need to monitor your hormones throughout your life. A balance in hormone is imperative to combat a number of conditions, of which aging is one.
Hormones control everything in the body. Low progesterone levels can lead to insomnia. Lower estrogen levels take the youthful glow away from your face. Low testosterone tanks your libido.
Fall In Love. Feel It. It Makes You Stay Young
Do you know being in love makes you gorgeous? Studies prove that being in a warm relationship improves your health, looks and reverses your biological clock.
Love is powerful. It is literally a medicine. A strong relationship keeps your stress level and blood pressure low. It keeps your skin healthy and glowing.
Research shows couples in love add a positive influence in each other’s life. They help motivate the “significant other” to give up smoking, get vaccination and screening, and stop drinking.
When you are in love, the blood flow to your skin is increased that supplies blood, oxygen and nutrients to skin cells. This is called the “love glow”. The love glow makes you look younger.
Go Fruity, Literally, If You Want To Retain Youth
Eat fruits if you want to look younger. Brightly-colored fruits and vegetables, such as berries, tomatoes, avocado, pomegranate, and broccoli, boost vitamin levels in the body such as vitamin A, C & E. These vitamins work like a natural sunscreen and prevent aging.
Broccoli contains vitamins and chromium that boost brain function and prevent aging. Cabbage and sprouts contain sulforaphane which reduces the risk of heart attack, cancer and stroke.
Tomatoes are a rich source of lycophene, an antioxidant that fights off free radicals as a result of cell damage and death.
Red, blue, black and raspberries contain a powerful antioxidant, anthocyanins, that slow down aging. A cup of berries a day is sufficient to fight inflammation and make you look young & beautiful.
Pomegranates are the healthies food in the world. They contain polyphenol, antioxidant that prevents skin from sun damage, and reduces risk of cancer and diabetes. It also increases collagen synthesis and repairs skin damage.
