The early 2000s pop teen sensation, JoJo, (real name: Joanna Noëlle Blagden Levesque) has poured her heart out about her struggle to get perfect body image. The 25-year-old star revealed the details of her off-screen life problems in a recent interview with Popsugar.
As our lifestyles evolve, we reach out to achieve perfection by setting unrealistic goals for ourselves. Today’s yardstick for societal approval has become so complex that we often lag behind in this never-ending race to prove ourselves ‘good enough’. Carrying a tag of being a celebrity made situations even worse for JoJo. She had to go through a lot of pressure to gain the slim body image of a modern day’s popstar.
She told that she had to take weight reducing and supplementation injections while she reduced her daily calorie intake to 500 calories a day. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, an optimal daily calorie count for adult women ranges from 1,600-2,400 calories per day, which clearly shows how JoJo’s eating habits were dangerously unhealthy.
While working for her previous music company, she was consistently told that she needed to lose weight quickly. For this purpose, the star took unhealthy shortcuts to help herself in the situation.
She said that she did not know that in her effort to gain the perfect slim body, she was dragging herself into a deeper pit of troubles.
As an exchange of an abrupt weight loss, she fell prey to psychological distress. She admitted that reducing weight by taking injections was the unhealthiest decision of her life and she urged all the girls who dream of perfect body image to not take this route.
Considering what went wrong in the past, she got back up and embraced herself. Now, she is comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t feel the need to comply to what others want her to become.
