Erectile dysfunction – a nightmare and the deal breaker for all men and their relationships,. Even the fear of this curse is enough to question your manhood. But fear not because your problems can be fixed just by vitamin D.
Erin D. Michos, MD, of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore studied 3,390 men and considered them to have ED who had answered ‘never’ or ‘sometimes able’ on a question related to erectile dysfunction. These men had also participated in the 2001–2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, when they were aged 20 years or above and were free from cardiovascular risks.
The researchers found out that erectile dysfunction (ED) is caused by decreased vitamin D in the body. Men with vitamin D below 20ng per ml of blood have 30- 80% chance of developing ED while the optimum amount is 30ng/ml after considering diet and lifestyle.
Erin D. Michos says, “Our findings have potentially important clinical and public health implications for men. Vitamin D is an easy biomarker to screen through simple commercially-available laboratory tests, and deficiencies can be treated with supplementation and/or modest sunlight exposure.”
They point out that there are other factors too which lead to ED like diabetes, cardiac problems and atherosclerosis.
The researchers noted that reduced synthesis of nitric oxide in the body due to low levels of vitamin D may also be a reason for ED. They say nitric oxide aids smooth muscles to relax and therefore helps in erection and that vitamin D can reduce risks of vascular and cardiac diseases in men.
So now you are aware what you need, The D! The Vitamin D!
