With the presidential elections in such close proximity, Donald Trump, Hilary Clinton and many others are involved in a head on collision with each other. Sleep deprivation and no rest, just hard work and commitment to the cause.
Think about the sleepless nights us persevering students spent while in a struggle to get good marks in an exam that can either make us or break us. But we only have to deal with the hopes and expectations of our parents. Imagine having to bear the weight of an entire nation on your shoulders. Being the president of the United States may seem like a glorious title but it is no walk in the park. It could easily be considered one of the most stressful jobs in the entire world.
According to a report by BBC, President Obama, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and other popular politicians barely get 4-6 hours of sleep a day.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, an adult basically requires 7-9 hours of sleep to function healthily. But how can these presidential candidates and political leaders fit in a hefty 8 hours of sleep in their hectic schedules?
“I usually sleep about four hours per night,” remarked Donald trump when inquired about his daily sleep cycle. Could this be the reason for his highly disturbing personality?
Chronic sleep deprivation may cause obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. The 1999 mega blockbuster of a movie ‘Fight Club’ presented an interesting theory that ‘continued sleep deprivation may lead to dissociative identity disorder’. Only a movie you may be thinking but the truth is that lack of sleep can alter our minds.
In one such study Steven Jay Lynn, PhD, of Binghamton University and his colleagues kept 25 healthy individual from sleeping one night and discovered that many of them had dissociative experiences. Lack of sleep may be the leading cause of impaired memory and lack of concentration resulting in gaffes and blunders. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be in a situation in which my personal health may be the cause of discomfort for others around me.
In a nutshell, human beings need sleep to recharge and reconsolidate. And no sleep and all work makes Donald a dull and might I say ‘cranky’ child.
